It may be car chases and daisy dukes instead of nyuk nyuks and physical humor, but it still falls into the same area.

I also forgot to mention that, albeit implied, Bo gets it on with the hot chick who just happens to be rebuilding the orphanage.

Personally, I loved the show. Call it guilty pleasure, or credit the fact that my SE Kentucky roots probably qualify me as part-neck, but whatever the case....who doesn't love car chases set to banjo music?

But let's face it- the morality of the show, especially since it was for kids.....the dominant theme was, it's ok to break the law, so long as it's for the right reasons (and since the law is corrupt anyway). I think that theme is one of the reasons the show was a successful as it was, but when you think about it, it really is the wrong message. Now, as for the importance of family, and some of the other themes they discussed, fine.

Most don't know it, but Gae's old car, the Red Rocket, the horn on it would play "Dixie" whenever she jumped over a washed-out bridge.

Won a gift card to Best Ream- I mean, Best Buy, so I went over and made all kinds of frivolous purchases I would otherwise have never made if it had involved my own cash.

So anyway, one of the things we got was the first season of the Dukes of Hazzard. A little before your time, Raven, but trust me, it may be the greatest show ever.

Anyway, we're watching the pilot episode, and what I guess I hadn't noticed before was how "raunchier" it was early on. In the pilot, they cuss a few times. The Dukes steal slot machines, then set them up around town (although they do give the money to charity....go figure). There are references to prostitution. They make fun of Enos for still being a virgin. Lots of drinkin' and butt-kickin'. Cooter steals (and wrecks) a cruiser. And so on.

It appears to me that they were targeting an older crowd, and never anticipated how much of a hit the show would be with kids. As the episodes progress, you can see how they watered it down- no cussing, more silly antics, etc.

But it made me wonder- if the show had been a big hit with primarily adults, it could really have been the show of all shows. Think about it- necks, cars, beer & girls. Crooked law enforcement. Bar fights. A mechanic named "Cooter." The possibilities were endless.

I still love the show, I just wonder what might have been...

FYI, "Emergency" was another show that was big with kids yet they kept the storylines more or less even throughout, so I mean, it can be done.

Yeah, but I take solace in one thing- if Duke or North Carolina win another National Title, then those two schools COMBINED will have caught UK. ANd I think that speaks for itself.
